LA NUCIA-COSTA
BLANCA
La
Nucia is located to the northeast of the
province of Alicante, in the center of the
region of The Marine Baixa, and one of the
most beautiful and assorted of the coast.
Flanked on the north with Polop and Callosa
d'en Sarria and Altea, to the south with
L'Alfaz, and to the west with Benidorm, 50 km
away.
It has highways toward the Coast, linked
directly with Altea, Benidorm and L'Alfaz, and
toward the mountains to Polop and Callosa d'en
Sarria. At present the villa and their
urbanizations accept a good number of
foreigners, and Spanish that reside there do
so for a large part of the year.
The climate of La Nucia is typically
Mediterranean, with proximity to the sea, and
surrounded by high mountains that shelter it
from the cold winds of the north. Its relative
height, keeps it from extreme temperatures.
In the cultural centre the town hall possesses
two beautiful two buildings: La Casa de la
Cultura endowed with a wide library and «El
Sindicat» intended for various cultural
activities: cinema, theatre etc.
The local holidays in La Nucia are celebrated
on the 15 to the 18 of August in honor of the
Virgen of the Immaculate Conception. The
Holiday of San Rafael is celebrated on the
third Sunday of November and has a strictly
religious character. The Holiday of San
Vicente is celebrated on the second Monday of
Easter.
La Nucia is an elegant residential zone with
69 housing estates inhabited all year by local
and foreign residents, though this has not
changed the customs and beauty of this
peaceful village. The series of small rises (tossalets)
that comprise the district are covered in
green pine and fruit trees. The Aixortá and
the Aitana provide protection from the cold
northern winds and ensure an average annual
temperature of 15º C. A good time to visit
the village is on Sunday mornings when stalls
selling second-hand goods stretch over several
kilometres, constituting one of the most
impressive markets of the province. Trips can
be made to the old washhouse and up the road
through the white houses, revealing a peaceful
village that still enjoys its old customs
close to La Nucia.
